Bivens and Wolf Receive College of Engineering’s Exemplary Team Performance Award
Chad Bivens and Kevin Wolf, shop supervisors in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), won the College of Engineering’s Exemplary Team Performance Award at the 2016 Above and Beyond Staff Recognition and Award Program on April 13, held at the Ohio Union. The program provides a mechanism for employees to be recognized for outstanding performance in support of the college’s mission and university and core values.
The College of Engineering Employee Staff Advisory Committee (ESAC) provides students and faculty an opportunity to nominate outstanding staff for their performance or service in five categories: Exemplary Service to Students; Exemplary Support or Advancement of Research; Outstanding Service; Exemplary Support of Diversity and Inclusion; and Exemplary Team Performance or Service.
Bivens is supervisor for MAE’s machine shop that is a crucial part of hands-on learning experience, required of every mechanical engineering student. He is responsible for directing 15 undergraduate teaching assistants, as well as developing course material. According to Blaine Lilly, associate professor and Bivens’ supervisor, student evaluations of Bivens attest to their outstanding learning experience.
Wolf assists Bivens in the lab and is supervisor for the mechanical engineering prototype shop. “His role as the point person for all things 3D printing is an invaluable asset,” said Lilly.
Mitch Eichler, a senior in mechanical engineering, praises the pair for their practical manufacturing experience and thoughtful planning. “I know that all I have learned from these phenomenal teachers will serve me well as I prepare to be a design engineer.”
