Aerospace Engineering Curriculum
A Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering (BS AE) from The Ohio State University consists of courses required by the University, the College of Engineering, and by the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The Aerospace Engineering program is designed not only to teach the background theory of engineering, but also the application of these principles. Once admitted to the Aerospace Engineering major, students will study engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, aerodynamics, kinematics, propulsion, measurements and controls, and design.

College of Engineering General Education Course List
Ohio State’s General Education (Gen Ed) is an integral part of a student's academic experience in the College of Engineering. This curriculum is designed to provide students with a better understanding of society’s traditions and past, accomplishments and aspirations, relation and responsibility to the natural world, diversity and plurality, and problems and needs. The goal is for students to develop skills, competencies, and a breadth of knowledge as an educated, productive citizen.
Students in the College of Engineering will fulfill the General Education Curriculum through the following categories:
Writing and Related Skills (6 hr)
The goal of this category is to develop skills in writing, reading, critical thinking, and oral expression.
Social Sciences (6 hr)
The goals of this category is to help you understand human behavior and cognition, and the structures of human societies, cultures, and institutions.
Historical Study (3 hr)
The goal of this category is to develop your knowledge of how past events influence today’s society and help you understand how humans view themselves.
Arts & Humanities (6 hr)
The goal of this category is to allow you to evaluate significant writing and works of art. Such studies develop capacities for aesthetic and historical response and judgment; interpretation and evaluation; critical listening, reading, seeing, thinking, and writing, and experiencing the arts and reflecting on that experience.
Breadth: Cultures & Ideas or Second Historical Study (3 hr)
Select one course from Historical Study or Cultures & Ideas.
Professional Ethics (0-3 hr)
The goal of courses in this category is to develop a nuanced understanding of the applied ethical issues involved within a professional career.
Diversity (0-3 hr)
The goal of courses in this category is to foster an understanding of the pluralistic nature of institutions, society, and culture. Students can choose a diversity focus of either Social Diversity in the U.S. or Global Diversity
Students admitted to Ohio State for the Autumn 2022 and after will follow the New General Education (GEN) program. Information about the structure of the GEN and requirements for students can be found through the Office of Undergraduate Education.
GEN Requirements for Mechanical Engineering students:

Approved general education courses for each category can be found in the following places:

A passing grade in a course is defined as a D or better. By earning a D or better, you are earning credit for the course.
Exceptions:
- Some courses may require a C- or better in a pre-requisite course (i.e. MATH 1172 with MATH 1151). Unless specifically stated in the listed pre-requisites, a passing grade of D or better is considered sufficient to move on to the next course.
- Some majors/minors require that you earn a C- or better in courses to remain in good standing in the program. A minor program will specifically state this on their website or minor program sheet.
- Aerospace Engineering requires that students earn a C- or better in AEROENG 2200 and MECHENG 2010/2040 to be in good standing in the major, but all other major courses would technically be complete with an earned D grade. However, please note that students in Aerospace Engineering must have a 2.0 or better Major GPA (MPHR) and a 2.0 or better Cumulative GPA (CPHR) to graduate with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. Earning all Ds in courses will not be sufficient to earn these GPAs.
