Major Changing
Interested in changing your major?
Please see information listed below. We have included both guidance for students wishing to change into Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, and also for students already in our majors looking into changing into a major outside of our department.
For any further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to maeadvisor@osu.edu!
Changing to a Pre-MAE Major
Please e-mail maeadvisor@osu.edu to inquire about changing your major to Pre-Mechanical or Pre-Aerospace Engineering. Please note that in Autumn 2023 students will only be permitted to apply to Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering if they are in one of our pre-majors.
If you are a current student at OSU who is not enrolled in the College of Engineering, please review the College of Engineering webpage detailing instructions for changing into a College of Engineering Pre-Major. Students are permitted to change into Pre-Mechanical or Pre-Aerospace Engineering through the end of Summer 2023, provided they meet the eligibility requirements outlined on this page.
Students are no longer permitted to change their major to Pre-Mechanical or Pre-Aerospace Engineering, regardless of their status in the College of Engineering or outside.
The College of Engineering has many highly-acclaimed Engineering majors that are still available to accept pre-major and major students and we encourage you to explore other fields of Engineering!
Please review the College of Engineering webpage detailing instructions for changing into a College of Engineering Pre-Major for more information about other Engineering majors.
Changing Your Major Outside of MAE
Each Engineering major has different rules for changing into their Pre-Major/Major program. Please contact the Academic Advisor/Academic Advising team in that Program for more information about changing.
Already know what major you'd like to change into? Great! Please make an appointment with an advisor in that program to discuss the major changing process.
