Education Abroad
Education Abroad
The Office of International Affairs administers education abroad programming at Ohio State, which allows students to engage in cross-cultural interactions and enjoy a rewarding educational experience in another country — all at the same time. Students have the opportunity to gain an education abroad experience by taking classes through an exchange program or foreign university, completing an independent study or service learning project, conducting research or participating in an internship program.
The College of Engineering supports the university’s global initiative by promoting education abroad and encouraging students to participate in study abroad programs and other international initiatives. Students can study abroad and fulfill academic requirements, such as general education courses, at the same time.
Are there Education Abroad opportunities specific to the College of Engineering?
Each academic year, more than 200 College of Engineering students venture abroad to enhance their understanding of the world and the international aspects of enginnering. To support this student interest, the College of Engineering sponsors a series of discipline-specific and faculty-led education abroad programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. Programs include Engineering Service-Learning in Ghana, Humanitarian Engineering and Culture in Guyana, Engineering Service-Learning in Montana de Luz, Honduras, Engineering Castles and Cathedrals in England and Wales, Sustainable Community Development - Honduras, and Engineering Ancient Greece.
What is the Global Option in Engineering?
The Global Option in Engineering (GO ENGR) Program infuses global perspectives into the undergraduate engineering curriculum and involves course selections with global perspectives as part of the various engineering degree programs.
GO ENGR educates students on the impact of global cultural diversity on engineering decisions. Students plan an undergraduate engineering curriculum with elements related to international themes and global dimensions without adding time to graduation by selectively using credit hours they are already required to take as part of their chosen engineering major. Upon successful completion, students receive an Engineering Global Option designation on their transcript.
Additional information about GO ENGR can be found here.
Where can students learn more about international opportunities?
Students are encouraged to learn more about international opportunities by attending Getting Started Sessions, Program Information Sessions, or the Education Abroad Expo. Students can also contact the Engineering Abroad Manager (global.CoE@osu.edu) for additional program information and application procedures.
