Staff Spotlight: Kierra Hampton

Where is your hometown?

I grew up in Dublin, Ohio just about 20 minutes northwest of Columbus.

What is your field and what made you pursue it? 

My field is Communications. I’ve always been interested in all things public relations, social media, advertising, and marketing. Since comm is such a broad field I’ve been lucky to explore many different sides. So far, I’ve really enjoyed getting to work more on the creative side.

What brought you to Ohio State?

Growing up close to campus my family has always been rooting for the Buckeyes! My sophomore year of high school I started to get more serious about wanting to come to Ohio State and I ended up coming here for my undergrad during 2018-2021. I studied Strategic Communication while I was here, and I loved my time on campus. It all came full circle now that I am back and working for the university!

How do you help facilitate the needs of the department?

I’ve recently started in December 2021 so I’m still getting the hang of the day-to-day. My focus is on the internal communication for the department, this includes managing social media, making sure the website is up to date and in general keeping up with any news or stories going on in the department. We’ve recently launched the MAE Instagram (@ohiostatemae) so that has been a fun project to get up and running.

What do you like most about your job?

I really enjoy that the position is very broad. There’s a lot of different aspects of the position so I’ve enjoyed getting to learn every day and overall become more well-rounded in my comms skillset. It’s also been a nice easy-going environment and the job is flexible. I’ve enjoyed getting to know my new co-workers in the department as well.

What is one of your favorite hobbies outside of work?

In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends, trying new restaurants, and exploring different markets around Columbus.
