August 2021. Fromer DISL member Dr. Yu She accepted a tenture track position from School of Industrial Engineering (IE) at Purdue University.

September 2021. Prof. Su received a new NSF grant for studying variable stiffness mechanisms and robots.

August 2021. Prof. Su received a new NSF PFI (partenership for innovation) grant for developing a variable stiffness robotic gripper for commercialization.

May 2021. DISL member Dr. Chao-Min Huang and Prof. Su published an article titled "Integrated computer-aided engineering and design for DNA assemblies" in Nature Materials.

July 2019. Prof. Su is promoted to a full professor.

December 2017. Doctoral student Yu She received the 2018 Presidential Fellowship from OSU for his outstanding research record. His disertation focuses in the area of human safe co-robots. See the departmental news.

August 2017. Prof. Su is elected to a Fellow of ASME for innovative work in the field of compliant mechanisms and DNA origami mechanisms. Here is the department news link.

Ocotober 2016. Prof. Su and Prof. Castro published a joint article titled "The Rise of the DNA Nanorobots" in August 2016 issue of Mechanical Engineering Magazine. Click here to download the article. Interesting enough, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016 was awarded jointly to Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir J. Fraser Stoddart and Bernard L. Feringa "for the design and synthesis of molecular machines". Thanks for their pioneering work in this area. We hope to engineer robots for numerous applications using mechanical design principles.

 August 2016. Prof. Su received a prestigious National Robotics Initiative (NRI) award from National Science Foundation. The goal of this research is to develop human safe co-robots, robots that work collaboratively with human operators. This award has been features on MAE newsCollege of Engineering news and OSU onCampus Today news.

November 2015. DISL doctoral student Lifeng Zhou received the 2015 Presidential Fellowship awarded by The Ohio State University Graduate School. The Presidential Fellowship is the most prestigious award given by the Graduate School, recognizing outstanding scholarly accomplishments and potential of graduate students entering the final phase of their dissertation research or terminal degree project.  Lifeng's research is at the intersection of traditional kinematics field and the cutting edge DNA nanotechnology and he is pioneering in applying the principle and design approaches from macroscopic compliant mechanisms to build nanoscale machines and robots made of DNA materials.  See full story here.

September 2015. DISL received a new National Science Foundation grant "Robust Design of Compliant DNA Origami Mechanisms" to continue its efforts to push the frontier of DNA Origami Mechanisms. 

September 2015. A new website "" has been established to distribute DAS/2D (Design, Analysis and Synthesis), a software for design and analysis of compliant mechanisms. 

September 2015. Undergraduate Assistant at DISL Carter Hurd recieved the first place in First Place at 2015 ASME Student Mechanism & Robot Design Competition. Congratulations. Please check out the OSU MAE newsletter.

September 2015. Dr. Su gave a tutorial on Compliant Mechanisms at the 2015 ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences held August, 2015 in Boston, MA. The tutorial lecture notes can be downloaded from via the link
