Admissions

Whether you are a high school senior, a student who is considering transferring from another university, or a current Ohio State student considering Mechanical or Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering as a major or Nuclear Engineering as a minor, you can find more information here about our department programs.

Are you a prospective OSU student?

We look forward to seeing you at one of our engineering visits! Please look for the “Engineering Overview Only” session on the Ohio State Campus Visit site. If you don’t see an engineering session listed on a specific date, that means there is not an engineering session being offered on that day and we encourage you to look at alternate dates.

How to register: Register for a campus visit on the Ohio State Campus Visit site. Under “Prospective freshmen” or “Admitted freshmen” please click on “Admissions Overview and Tour” or “Admitted Student Visit” to access the visit calendar. Please search for and select (“add”) an “Engineering Overview Only” session to visit the College of Engineering. You can schedule an engineering visit with OR without scheduling a campus tour. If you have questions about admission to the College of Engineering, please contact the Engineering Undergraduate Recruitment Team at eng-recruitment@osu.edu

Are you a current OSU student?

If you are already a student at OSU and are thinking of changing your major to Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, just contact one of our undergraduate advisors at maeadvisor@osu.edu or (614) 292-0515 to schedule an appointment. We'll be happy to show you how your previous coursework may apply to your degree track and review with you requirements for admission.

Pre-Major to Major Process

All students who have declared their interest in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering but have not yet been admitted to the major are designated as pre-major students.  Pre-major students are working toward the completion of the pre-requisite coursework.  Because admission to the major is competitive, it is important that pre-major students closely monitor their EPHR (eligibility point-hour ratio) and see their academic advisor if they experience any academic struggles.

Pre-major students are also encouraged to start exploring the opportunities available to them outside of their coursework, such as student project teams, the Engineering Co-op & Internship Program, or other university organizations.
