Soghrati, Soheil

Biography

Dr. Soheil Soghrati is a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering & Materials Science and Engineering at OSU. He earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering with a Minor in Computational Science in Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2013. Immediately after earning his Ph.D., Dr. Soghrati joined the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at OSU as an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Since 2015, he has also been one of the steering board faculty members of the Simulation Innovation and Modeling Center (SIMCenter). In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure at OSU. In 2023, Dr. Soghrati was promoted to the rank of full professor. His research interests lay in the area of computational solid mechanics, with a focus on developing advanced microstructure reconstruction, mesh generation, and deep learning algorithms for the automated modeling and computational design of materials with complex microstructures. He has also developed the patented AI-driven DLD3 technique, which used AI as a surrogate to the finite element method for simulating the physical behavior of a wide range of problems. Dr. Soghrati has established and is the director of the Automated Computational Mechanics Laboratory (ACML) at OSU. The research projects at ACML are sponsored by several federal agencies and industry partners, including the National Science Foundation, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Department of Defense, Honda R&D Americas, Ford, Owens Corning, and Institute for Materials Research.
