Mallory, Ann

Biography

Dr. Ann Mallory is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  She is also a Research Scientist at the Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.) where she is assigned on contract to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC). The VRTC is NHTSA’s in-house laboratory, located at TRC Inc.’s test facilities in East Liberty, Ohio. She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, Canada (BASc, Systems Design Engineering, 1995), the University of Southern California (MS, Biomedical Engineering, 2001), and the Ohio State University (PhD, Mechanical Engineering, 2014). 

Expertise

Dr. Mallory’s expertise is in the area of injury biomechanics.  Her research career has focused on experimental and epidemiological studies of human injury. Current research areas include the development of post mortem experimental methods to study injuries associated with head rotation, prediction of injury risk for older motor vehicle crash occupants, evaluation of motorcycle helmet test procedures and injury criteria, the protection of the knee and thorax in motor vehicle crashes into pedestrians, and the development of a predictive crash model to identify future research priorities during and after the introduction of automated driving systems.
