Gunjan Agarwal, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was recognized by winning the Faculty Diversity Excellence Award on April 28, 2023, at the 26th annual Distinguished Faculty Awards.

This award recognizes an individual or team demonstrating excellence and success in the development and implementation of models, strategies, practices and programs that foster and enhance diversity in the college. Agarwal won this award due to her exceptional contributions towards recruitment and mentoring of underrepresented students in engineering.

“Diversity is important to bring in different perspectives for the growth of the field,” Agarwal said. “In particular for engineering, diversity can improve the demographics of our future workforce which in turn can lead to economic growth and equity.”

Agarwal was encouraged by the commitment to diversity and inclusion that the College of Engineering has and was honored by the recognition.

“It is an honor to be recognized by this award,” Agarwal said. “More than it is encouraging to know how much diversity and inclusion are valued by the College of Engineering.”
