Where is your hometown?

Marysville, California (Not Ohio)

What is your area of study and what made you pursue it?

I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering while my research is focused on development of a novel optical diagnostic technique for velocity measurements in turbulent flow fields. I pursued aerospace engineering due to my broad interests in flight and problem solving. In conjunction, I pursued my area of research due to the complexity of the problems and the fact that I get to work with my hands and perform experiments.

What brought you to Ohio State?

My interests in optical diagnostics applied to fluid mechanics brought me to Ohio State as there are various professors who perform work within this field.

What do you like most about the major and opportunities OSU allows?

The thing that I like the most about aerospace engineering is the breadth the field encompasses with a wide array of projects and research always being performed as part of it. OSU has offered the ability to explore some of this breadth through the diverse research and classes that is performed and offered here.

What is the best class you have taken so far and why?

My favorite and best class that I have taken so far is AEROENG 6771: Viscous Fluid Flow. It was probably one of my hardest classes, but the content and problems were extremely engaging and relevant. This provided me with a foundation that has assisted me throughout my time at OSU, particularly, in the pursuing fluids-based research.

What advice would you give high school students considering pursuing engineering as a major?

Begin to develop your knowledge and understanding behind your interest in science and do not be afraid of to pursue engineering because it is considered difficult.

What is an important decision you made during your time at MAE?

Initially, I was provided with a number of choices on what research to pursue and found that selecting this was quite difficult as all of my choices were quite interesting.

What was your favorite activity to do as a kid?

My favorite activity as a kid was skiing. I always looked forward to the winter and going on a ski trip. It is also an activity that I have been able to continually pursue.
