Bhushan and Brown's Article in the Top 100 for Scientific Reports
Nature Publishing Group’s Scientific Reports announced that Professor and Ohio Eminent Scholar Bharat Bhushan and Philip Brown, postdoctoral researcher’s article, "Mechanically durable, superoleophobe coatings prepared by layer-by-layer technique for anti-smudge and oil-water separation" placed in the top 100 read articles in 2015. The layer-by-layer approach can provide the flexibility needed to improve adhesion during oil-water separation applications.
Bhushan and Brown developed a new mesh using a special coating that contains thousands of tiny holes that act like a colander. When a mixture of oil and water is poured over the treated mesh, the oil gets trapped and the water passes straight through, separating the liquids and helping to clean oil spills. Research was developed at Ohio State’s Nanoprobe Laboratory for Bio- and Nanotechnology and Biomimetics.
Last November, Bhushan and Brown received an IChemE Global Award recognizing outstanding achievement in chemical and process engineering for their research – also ranked 42nd among the top 100 stories in 2015 by Discover magazine, reporting on complex subjects connecting everyday people with the greatest ideas and minds in science, and was recognized as one of 52 Insight’s Top Ten Science Stories of 2015.
