Joodi, Krak and Fredette Receive SAE 2015 Noise and Vibration Conference Best Paper Awards

Ohio State University students Ben Joodi, Michael Krak and Luke Fredette won three out of four best paper awards at the SAE 2015 Noise and Vibration Conference and Exhibition last week. A total of five Ohio State students participated in this year’s conference.

Ben Joodi, formerly a master’s student in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), won best written paper on the topic of Comparative Assessment of Frequency Dependent Bushing Properties using Direct and Inverse Methods.  Michael Krak, PhD student, won second best paper (overall) on the topic of Development of a Nonlinear Clutch Damper Experiment Exhibiting Transient Dynamics.  The third best (overall) paper was awarded to PhD student, Luke Fredette, on the topic of Dynamic Analysis of Hydraulic Bushings with Measured Nonlinear Compliance Parameters. All students are advised and their papers are co-authored by Professor Rajendra Singh, MAE Faculty Emeritus; research scientists Dr. Scott Noll and Dr. Jason Dreyer contributed as co-authors.

14 students from five universities participated in the student competition.  Monetary prizes were generously provided by 3M, competition sponsor.  The SAE 2015 Noise and Vibration Conference and Exhibition is the premier technical event dedicated to mobility noise, vibration and harshness. Held biennially, the conference serves as a forum for leading automotive, commercial vehicle, and aerospace professionals to share the latest technologies surrounding NVH and sound quality.

The Ohio State University Acoustics and Dynamics Laboratory http://autonvh.org for graduate level research presented eight papers and one panel discussion – the most presented by any academic institution.  The graduate education and research laboratory involves the analysis, design and synthesis of automotive and mechanical transmission systems for reducing noise, shock and vibration.
