ME Alum Sandeep Makam Wins New Faces of Engineering Award

Sandeep Makam, an Indian American technical specialist at Chrysler Group LLC, beat two other finalists to win the New Faces of Engineering Award, supported by SAE International in a partnership with DiscoverE, an organization whose mission is to support the value of engineering education K-12.

The program promotes the accomplishments of young engineers 30 years or younger by highlighting engineering contributions and the resulting impact of the innovation on society.

Makam heads a team at Chrysler working to improve vehicle fuel economy, performance, durability and reliability.  He was a recipient of 2012 and 2013 Chrysler Innovation Awards.

Makam teaches a class on reliability statistics to Chrysler engineers, has authored five peer-reviewed publications and has a patent pending.  He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from IIT-Madras and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University with a research focus on gear systems.

SAE International is a global association of more than 138,000 engineers and related technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial-vehicle industries.
