Students Take Top Places at Denman Undergraduate Research Forum

Congratulations to ME students Andrew Madden, Shawn Pearson, and Jennifer McFerran, who took first, second, and third place in the Mechanical and Materials Science Engineering category at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum! This annual event took place on May 4, 2003 at the Blackwell Inn and showcased undergraduate research projects. These awards are provided by contributions from Richard and Martha Denman to recognize the importance of undergraduate research. 

First place winner, Andrew Madden, won a monetary prize of $500 for his research titled "Flow-Acoustic Coupling in Side Branch Ducts: Whistle Suppression by Boundary Layer Perturbation." Andrew's project was guided by Professor Ahmet Selamet. Shawn Pearson won second place and a $300 monetary prize for his research entitled "An Analytical Approach to the Design of Canine Cemented Hip Prosthesis." More information about this area of research, mentored by Shawn's advisor Professor Somnath Ghosh. Jennifer McFerran won third place and a monetary prize of $200 for her research entitled "Biofluid Transport Through Nanochannels."
