Smith and Kalouche Earn First Place Awards at Denman

Two of the three first place awards within the engineering competition category of the March 26 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum were earned by mechanical engineering students. Simon Kalouche's presentation "Gecko Adhesive Climbing Robot" and Brad Smith's "A Non-Invasive Method for Determining a Deadly Form of Malaria: Plasmodium Falciparum" presentation were among the poster presentations to earn top honors. Smith is advised by Professor Vish Subramaniam and Kalouche is advised by Assistant Professor Haijun Su and Dr. Aaron Parness.
In addition another mechanical engineering senior, Scott Koch, who is also advised by Professor Subramaniam, earned one of the second place awards in the Engineering category of the competition. His presentation was titled "Design of an Eddy Current Probe for Cancer Detection." And finally, aerospace engineering student Jillian Yuricich was a third place finisher, with her presentation titled, "Turbulence Intensity at Inlet of 80-by 120-Foot Wind Tunnel Caused by Upwind Blockage." Her research advisor is Alan Wadcock of the NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate.
