Prasanna Raghavan Wins Melosh Medal

Posted:

Congratulations to Prasanna Raghavan, recipient of the 15th annual Robert J. Melosh Medal for the best student paper on finite element analysis. Prasanna is a doctoral student in Engineering Mechanics, now a part of Mechanical Engineering. Prasanna's paper is titled "Adaptive Multi-Scale Computational Modeling of Composite Materials"; the underlying research is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The winner of the Robert J. Melosh Competition is determined on the merits of an extended abstract and an oral presentation of the student's paper. This year, six finalists, including Prasanna, were selected from twenty-two extended abstract submissions. The finalists then competed in an oral presentation of their work on March 28, 2003 at Duke University. In addition to winning the Robert J. Melosh Medal, Prasanna also received a $500 honorarium.

Prasanna works in the Computational Mechanics Research Laboratory under the guidance of his PhD advisor, Professor Somnath Ghosh.
