Mechanical Engineering graduate student, Paul Eder, has been awarded the 2nd Prize in the 2002 Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum for his paper entitled "High-Performance Multi-Level Parallel Computing for Adaptive Multi-Scale Voronoi Cell Finite Element Modeling of Composite, Porous, and Metallic Materials." There were 35 applicants in engineering, of which 7 were selected for presentation. In addition to a cash prize of $200, Paul's paper will appear in a book, due for publication in June 2002.

Paul works in the Computational Mechanics Research Group at OSU, under the guidance of Professor Somnath Ghosh. Paul's Master's thesis is on integrating high performance parallel computing with multi-scale modeling. He is slated to graduate with an MS degree in June 2002.

Paul graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from OSU in 2000. His other distinctions include a 2000-2001 Ohio State University Fellowship; 1999-2000 OSU College of Engineering Lumley Undergraduate Research Award; 1996-2000 Dean's List; 1996-2000 Ohio State University Scholarship; and 1996-2000 OSU College of Engineering Dean's Award.
