ME Honors Student Cullen Buie Wins Board of Trustees Award

Congratulations to Cullen R. Buie, winner of this year's Board of Trustees Student Recognition Award. Cullen is an honors senior in mechanical engineering, slated to receive his BSME degree in Spring 2003. Throughout his academic career, Cullen has had a stellar performance. Last year, Cullen won the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. In 2001, Cullen won the Outstanding Sophomore Award in the university-wide Denman Research Forum conducted by the Ohio State Office of Research, for his project on smart actuators using shape-memory alloys. In high school, Cullen was selected for Ohio State's Pre-Freshman and Cooperative Education (PREFACE) Program, which gives academically talented minority students a head start in engineering. Cullen is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Tau Beta Pi national engineering honor society, and Lambda Psi, the newly formed minority-engineering student honorary. Upon graduation from Ohio State in June this year, Cullen plans to pursue graduate studies in the area of nanomachines for medical applications.
