Lorenzo Serrao, a Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering, has won the ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division Best Student Paper Award. Advised by Professor Giorgio Rizzoni, Serrao co-authored the award-winning paper in collaboration with Dr. Pierluigi Pisu, a former research associate at the Center for Automotive Research.

Serrao's first-place paper is titled, "Analysis and Evaluation of a Two-Engine Configuration in a Series Hybrid Electric Vehicle." The result of a project funded by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, in collaboration with the Oshkosh Truck Corporation, the paper describes the development of a novel hybrid configuration for a hybrid-electric refuse collection truck.

The Mechanical Engineering Department congratulates Lorenzo Serrao for his academic excellence, and for his outstanding performance in the ASME Best Student Paper competition.
