Kecskemety Nets $15,000 PEO Scholar Award

Posted:

Aerospace Engineering Graduate Fellow Krista Kecskemety has been awarded a $15,000 scholarship for next year by the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). Kecskemety's research deals with computational modeling of wind turbine aeroelasticity, specifically the influence of wake effects.
PEO Scholar Awards were established in 1991 to provide substantial merit-based awards for women of the United States and Canada who are either pursuing a doctoral level degree or are engaged in postdoctoral research at an accredited college, university or institution. In selecting recipients of these merit based, competitive awards, the board of trustees for PEO Scholar Awards evaluates each application using the following criteria: scholarly excellence, academic achievements, career goals, recommendations, potential of applicant to make a significant contribution to her field, and additional qualifications of applicant.

PEO was founded in 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The organization eventually expanded to include women beyond Iowa Wesleyan College. Today, PEO has grown to almost a quarter of a million members in chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, with headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. PEO exists to be a source of encouragement and support for women to realize their potential in whatever worthwhile endeavor they choose.
