The Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) Fellow Committee announced its selection of members elected to the Fellow grade of SAE membership, a list that includes Denny Guenther, professor of mechanical engineering.

Along with twenty-six other newly elected Fellows, Guenther will be honored during the 2009 SAE World Congress and Exhibition in Detroit, Michigan in April, 2009.

Guenther, involved with automotive research and development for more than 36 years, has a diverse technical and scientific career in the area of vehicle dynamics and simulation. He has advised more than 100 graduate students in transportation topics, many of whom performed thesis research at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC). His graduates are employed by every major vehicle manufacturer in the world.

In the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University, Guenther's primary research focus is on automobiles. His work in the area of vehicle dynamics and crash avoidance is sponsored by NHTSA and he works with industry in the area of biomechanics, as well as crash avoidance and vehicle dynamics. He is a consultant to GMC, Honda, Chrysler, and others.

Guenther is being recognized by SAE for his international reputation as a prolific researcher, author, and educator in automotive design, vehicle handling and stability, and accident injury analysis.

The Fellow grade, established in 1975, was developed to honor SAE members' professional contributions and to enhance the status of SAE's contributions to the profession and to society. More specifically, the Fellow grade recognizes important engineering, scientific, and leadership achievements. Members must be nominated for Fellow.
