Chen to Participate in 2014 NASA Glenn Faculty Fellowship Program

Associate Professor Jen-Ping Chen will be a participant in the 2014 NASA Glenn Faculty Fellowship Program (NGFFP). The ten-week NGFFP will run from Monday, June 2 to Friday, August 8. Faculty selected to particpate must demonstrate alignment with the needs of the NASA Glenn Research Center, which includes Chen's research interest in Propulsion System Aerodynamics among more than a dozen other topics. As part of the program, he will prepare a report on the results and outcomes of his computer simulation of inlet and fan interaction of the propulsion system of a blended wing body aircraft. The simulation will be performed to examine the aerodynamic and aeroelastic responses of a compressor fan to the distorted flow caused by ingesting the boundary layer flow in a curved inlet duct.

Chen is looking forward to the summer faculty fellowship and to reconnecting with NASA staff, many of them in Turbomachinery and Heat Transfer Branch, who were his colleagues when he was immersed in NASA Glenn's turbomachinery simulation code TURBO project from 1988 to 2004.
