Posted:

Assistant Professor Shaurya Prakash was presented a Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor award at the 18th annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum, which took place March 26 on Ohio State's main campus. This year, from a field of eighty nominees, five mentor awards were presented to those individuals who have assisted students in their undergraduate research projects. Prakash, who was a previous nominee for the honor, commented, "the award is a reflection of the wonderful students each one of us has a chance to work with and mentor."

Among the students that Prakash has advised was one of this year's Denman entrants, senior Ryan Snodgrass. Snodgrass' research poster was entitled, "Engineering Microarray Probe Development for the Imaging of Human Tumors." Other faculty from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering nominated for the award included: Assistant Professor Haijun Su, Professor Mo Samimy, Associate Professor Sandip Mazumder, and Professor Datta Gaitonde. In addition, staff member and student Christopher Lucas was also nominated for the award.

Prakash directs the Microsystems and Nanosystems Laboratory within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His research interests include: nanofluidics and microfluidics; water purification; sustainable energy generation; diagnostic tools for nanosystems; bio-inspired micro-and nanosystems; and fundamental studies on fluid and mass transport at the micro- and nanoscale.
