Nick Breckenridge, the Masters Program Administrator for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was awarded the 2014 Exemplary Service to Students Award by Ohio State's College of Engineering (CoE) at the March 19 CoE Staff Appreciation Brunch. The award was presented by College of Engineering Dean David Williams.

This year, the Engineering Staff Advisory Council (ESAC), provided students and faculty an opportunity to nominate outstanding staff for their superior service to a department, center, or the collegeThe nomination written for Nick's award states, "Nick is a tremendous asset to the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  He takes on more tasks than are outlined in his job description and completes them in a seemingly effortless way.  He performs the duties assigned to him with an endless source of enthusiasm and energy. Students see Nick not only as a resource, they see him as an important part of their experience here at Ohio State. Nick is always introducing ways to offer superior service to the students he serves.  From teaching a student how to use a video camera for recording a class presentation to reviewing course plans with incoming students, Nick has earned a reputation for being kind, organized, knowledgeable and always willing to help."

The nomination continues, "The adage 'you do not get a second chance to make a first impression' expresses Nick’s attitude with regard to his service, dedication, professionalism, and compassion when working with students.  From the first contact students have with Nick, whether it is via email, in person at an appointment to discuss graduate school, or at the meticulously arranged open house he organizes for high-caliber potential graduate students, Nick makes all students feel welcome and at home!"

For 2014, ESAC completed a comprehensive review and updated the CoE Staff Awards program to effectively place the emphasis on recognizing and rewarding individual efforts and achievements in specific areas. The change was made to provide a mechanism for employees to be recognized for outstanding performance in support of the college’s mission and university core values as they go above and beyond in carrying out their duties in the following areas: Outstanding Service; Exemplary Service to Students; and Outstanding Support of Research Activities.

Breckenridge, who joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in August 2007, was previously recognized in 2011 and 2012 as a nominee for the CoE Staff Appreciation Above and Beyond Award.
