Scheidler Earns NASA Aeronautics Scholarship

Posted:

Justin Scheidler, a mechanical engineering PhD candidate, has been selected to receive a NASA Aeronautics Scholarship. The two-year scholarship consists of a $35,000 annual stipend, tuition funds of up to $11,000 for tuition and other related education costs, and an optional 10 week paid summer internship. Scheidler, who is advised by Professor Marcelo Dapinois one of five students selected for the scholarship from a competitive field of over 100 applicants.

His research involves the development, modeling, and testing of multifunctional, metal-matrix composites manufactured using ultrasonic additive manufacturing. His recent focus is on the modeling of the nonlinear vibration of a smart composite containing a magnetically-active material for stiffness tuning and vibration control/mitigation applications.

The NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program is managed by NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate. The American Society for Engineering Education works with NASA to administer the Program.
