Noll and Dehner Take Top Honors in Student Paper Competition at SAE Noise and Vibration Conference

Recent PhD graduate Scott Noll and current PhD student Ricky Dehner took top honors in the student paper competition at the 2013 SAE International Noise and Vibration Conference and Exhibition held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, May 20-23. Noll's paper, titled "Comparative Assessment of Multi-Axis Bushing Properties Using Resonant and Non-Resonant Methods," received first place honors and was co-authored by Dr. Jason Dreyer and Professor Rajendra Singh, who also served as Noll's PhD advisor.

Dehner's paper, titled "Instabilities at the Low-Flow Range of a Turbocharger Compressor," received third place honors and was co-authored by his advisor, Professor Ahmet Selamet; Neil Figurella of The Ohio State University; Philip Keller and Michael Becker of BorgWarner Inc. (a company specializing in powertrain solutions); and Kevin Tallio, Keith Miazgowicz, and Robert Wade of the Ford Motor Co. 3M, sponsor of the student paper compeition, awarded cash prizes of $500 to both Noll and Dehner at the event's Wednesday, May 22 networking reception.

In addition, Eric Ricciardi and Ben Joodi, who graduated with BS degrees in mechanical engineering on May 5, received second and third place respectively in the student poster competitions at the conference. 3M was also the sponsor of the student poster compeition, and awarded a cash prizes of $200 to Ricciardi and $100 to Joodi. Both Ricciardi and Joodi are now pursuing their master's degrees in mechanical engineering at Ohio State and each are advised by Professor Singh.
