ME Program Alumnus Named Dean of Kent State's College of Technology

Ohio State University alumnus Shin-Min "Simon" Song will become the new dean of the College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology at Kent State University effective July 1, 2012. Later this summer the college will be renamed the College of Technology.

The appointment was announced by Robert G. Frank, KSU provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. Song is currently a professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering as well as the coordinator of international programs at Northern Illinois University (NIU). Previous to his NIU experience, he was a faculty member at the University of Illinois at Chicago and The Ohio State University.

Song's responsibilities as Dean will include the development and supervision of the program budget, recommendations regarding the appointment and retention of all staff, recommending and implementing program and course offerings, establishing course assignments and workloads, assisting in the administration of the university’s personnel and affirmative action policies, and enforcing all university regulations, policies and procedures.

Song received his Master's and PhD in mechanical engineering from Ohio State; his undergradate degree was completed at Tatung Institute of Technology.
