Two of the department's aerospace students who competed at the AIAA Region III Student Paper Competition in Dayton on April 2 earned top honors at the event.

Receiving first place in the undergraduate paper/presentation category was Sam Long's research titled "A Temperature Corrected Dual-Luminophore Pressure-Sensitive Paint System." In addition, graduate student Kevin Disotell's presentation, titled "Measurement of Transient Acoustic Fields Using a Single-Shot Pressure-Sensitive Paint Technique", won first place in the graduate student presentation category. Professor James Gregory is advisor to both Long and Disotell.

Other top universities with students entered in the AIAA Region III competition included University of Michigan, Purdue University, University of Cincinnati, and the University of Notre Dame. In total four Ohio State aerospace students presented research work at the event, which was hosted by the University of Dayton.

As the winner of the paper/presentation category, Sam Long will advance to national competition held in conjunction with the 50th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting to be held in Nashville next January.  His undergraduate paper will be part of the technical proceedings for the conference.

Congratulations, Sam and Kevin!
