Students Receive WIE Academic and Leadership Honors

The 31st annual Women in Engineering (WIE) Recognition Banquet was held Thursday, February 24 in the Ohio Union's West Ballroom to recognize the achievements of women who are enrolled as undergraduate and graduate engineering students at Ohio State. This year's featured speaker was Tana Utley, chief technology officer with responsibility for the Product Development and Global Technology Division at Catepillar Inc.

Karen Bellman (ME), Nagini Devarakonda (AAE), and Julie Thompson (ME) were among the eight individuals to receive the Distinguished Graduate Student Award. In addition, Bo Jiang (ME) and Laurie Taragano (ME) were two of nine undergraduate women to receive a "top academic award". Freshman Katie Strickland (ME) was among the six recipients of the Kaiser Fund Award. Katherine Bovee (ME) of the EcoCAR Team, Katie Goff (AAE) of Tau Beta Pi, Ashley Pugh (AAE) of Phi Sigma Rho, and Sarah Watzman (ME) of Society of Women Engineers also received WIE Leadership Awards.
