Justin Reed receives a three-year National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship.
It is our pleasure to introduce to you, Justin M. Reed, winner of a three-year National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. Justin graduated Summa Cum Laude with Distinction in Mechanical Engineering in March 2002. Justin's Honors Program Advisor, Professor Walter Lempert, describes him as "the finest honors student in the program and truly deserving of the NSF Graduate Fellowship".
Throughout his undergraduate study, Justin worked with Professor Mark Walter in the area of Experimental Mechanics. Their research paper titled "Analysis of Serration Characteristics and Acoustic Emission During Serrated Flow of 5000 Series Aluminum" is being sent for publication to Scripta Mettalurgica.
Justin plans to continue his research in robotics or advanced transit highways. He has been accepted for graduate study at MIT, Stanford, and Berkeley and is currently weighing his options.
Justin's NSF Fellowship carries a stipend of $21,500 per year for three years with all academic fees paid. Nine hundred such fellowships are awarded every year to outstanding graduates in various scientific disciplines.
