First-year engineering students will showcase their cornerstone design projects in the Fundamentals of Engineering for Honors Program (FEH) robot competition at Ohio State’s Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC). The university community and public are invited to watch student teams demonstrate how they designed their robots to meet the design competition specifications.
The competition requires each team of three to four students to design, build and program an autonomous robot using creativity and engineering principles to complete specified tasks on a course designed and built by the program’s teaching assistants. Each year has a different course and theme to give each class of students a unique experience in applying their knowledge and skills to a simulated real-world situation. The 2019 competition challenges the teams to prepare an arcade for a day of business.
The single-elimination tournament of the competition will start at 4:15 p.m. Doors will be open for the round robin tournament, which begins at noon. Parking is available at the Neil Avenue Parking Garage or the Tuttle Park Place Parking Garage at an hourly rate.
Through the generosity of corporate sponsors, many of whom provide judges in addition to financial support, teams are recognized with small scholarships for their achievements in a variety of areas: Consistency, Head-to-Head Performance, Innovation, Engineering, Aesthetics, Documentation, and Gracious Professionalism.
