Ardeshir Contractor will discuss his journey as an early pioneer in the solar energy field. In the 2000s, the solar energy supplier industry was budding with products stemming from several countries and many from new venture-funded companies. While some companies were very successful, many had setbacks at both the technical and financial level. Today, innovation in the solar energy space is expanding into areas of smart grids, electric mobility, renewable energy storage and material modernization. Large utilities in Europe and Asia are rapidly increasing renewable energy production and seeking innovative business models.

Mr. Contractor has experienced these developments first-hand as his company, Kiran Energy, sought new opportunities in various international markets. His partnerships with research institutions, including the National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education at IIT Bombay, have helped to further advance the solar energy field. During his lecture, Mr. Contractor will share his views on the path to innovation for the Cleantech industry and how research and higher education institutions can enhance their partnerships with industry leaders.

Hosted by Professor Vish Subramaniam, chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
