Seminar: Teaching creativity (and design)!

Abstract:

Innovative product design and engineering relies upon skills that involve creative thinking, domain knowledge, and the ability to execute ideas. This talk will outline teaching techniques and strategies that can be used to help teams, in both research and design contexts, become more creative and impactful. The seminar will draw upon experiences and examples from several design classes in the department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT.

About the Speaker:

Professor David Wallace joined the MIT Mechanical Engineering faculty in 1994 and is the director of the MIT Computer-aided Design Laboratory. He has a background in both industrial design and mechanical engineering. He teaches graduate and undergraduate product design courses that centre around designing and prototyping innovative products. His research has developed new computational design tools for predicting the integrated behavior of large-scale systems using heterogeneous simulations, and his current focus is on understanding creative processes and developing idea generation techniques.
