The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Seeks Department Chair

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is seeking a new chair to provide leadership and vision in the department's research and education. MAE activity ranges from sustainable energy, nanotechnology, networking and nuclear engineering, along with their applications in myriad domains, including healthcare, manufacturing and transportation.

MAE is a strong and growing department with nationally pre-eminent programs in established and emerging areas of research. MAE faculty adhere to the philosophy that true innovation depends upon the cooperation of academia, industry, and government working together to advance the goals of science and technology.

MAE has a history of collaboration with other departments in the College of Engineering, as well as the Air Force Research Laboratory, several National Laboratories, GE Aviation, Honda of America, and numerous other industrial partners. Incoming leadership is anticipated to bring collaborative leadership that builds and grows relationships within and between the department, college, university, and external stakeholders.

Under direction of the Dean of The Ohio State University College of Engineering, the MAE chair is responsible for all administrative, budgetary, and personnel decisions within the Department. The chair will also lead and manage the next phase of the department’s growth.

As head of the department, the MAE chair will lead the department’s mission in the dissemination of knowledge and technology, and the development of innovative solutions to problems in mechanical, aerospace and nuclear engineering. As a department with a track record of innovation, MAE is looking for an incoming chair who will develop, articulate and execute a strong strategic vision for the department and lead cultural changes in support of this strategic vision.

  • Approximately 1900 undergraduates are pursuing a degree in either Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (and a minor in Nuclear Engineering)
  • Nearly 300 graduate students are enrolled in a degree program in either Mechanical, Aerospace, or Nuclear Engineering.
