Reasons to be a Buckeye...

The weather. Columbus and Ohio in general have some pretty awesome weather all things considered. We experience all the seasons throughout the year so students can come from all over the world and have a little taste of home weather-wise throughout the year. You also don’t have to worry about the more severe weather effects that you might see in other parts of the country.

The city. Columbus is the capital of Ohio and has a lot going for it due to its centralized location in the state. Whether it’s our close ties to industry partners in the surrounding area for jobs after graduation or the abundance of things to do in the city such as sporting events, art exhibits, cultural fairs just to name a few, there’s a lot for a student to do in addition to their school and research work. Even better, you can drive anywhere in the state within 2-3 hours, so you can see professional sporting events, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and much more in a day trip and be home and in bed later that night!
The medical benefits. Literally every kind of doctor is available and close by thanks to our world famous Wexner Medical Center, so if you have medical needs you have a large network to tap into as an Ohio State student. You can learn more about the medical benefits that students have when they enroll at Ohio State at https://shi.osu.edu/shi-benefits-plan.

The support system is amazing. Faculty, staff and other campus partners all work together to try and help make the best experience possible for us. It can be a little hard initially if you don’t have a faculty advisor lined up, but the graduate staff advisors are tremendous assets in helping incoming students in addition to our more senior peers.
There is truly an endless amount of opportunities of which to get involved. Research and coursework make up the largest portion of graduate studies, no question, but they aren’t the only thing that make up your time as a student at Ohio State. Simply put, if you can think of it, then there's probably a student organization about it and a professor here who studies it and if that’s the case, then there are many more you haven't thought about. In addition, we have amazing recreational opportunities including several recreational facilities, numerous group fitness class, discounted ticket programs to events and more. There’s always SOMETHING going on around our campus.

The connections. Whether it’s Alumni Fire, which provides new students the ability to connect with other OSU alumni all over the world, or Buckeye Pen Pal, which is a more one-to-one connection, you have the ability to tap into our rich alumni base which can be very helpful settling in, when it comes time to look for a job or any time in between! We also have an outstanding career services office and our department is great at sharing career related information with us as well as providing us with opportunities to hear from others who recently graduated and transitioned into the workforce.
