MAE Graduate Research Day

Poster Fair

  • There will be a research poster fair from 12:30-2:30pm. This will be open to all in MAE as well as prospective students who will be visiting the department as part of departmental recruiting activities that day.
  • We are capping poster presenters at 50 and a maximum of two presenters per advisors to ensure a wide variety of participation.
  • The MAE Department will be covering the cost of research posters printed for the event. Posters will need to be completed by October 14 to ensure they can be printed before the event. Students will need to use the OSU Research Poster template as this is a standard template provided by the University for research events. Select this link for the PowerPoint poster template.
  • Posters must be 36" x 48" (standard research poster size).
  • The top 3 poster presenters will each receive funding to use for professional development and/or travel reimbursement to participate in conferences related to their research.

Virtual 3 Minute Thesis Competition

  • MEGA will be hosting a virtual 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition to coincide with the larger research event.
  • A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted (no slide transitions, animations or "movement" of any kind is permitted).
  • No additional electronic media (e.g., sound and video files) are permitted aside from the presenter's voice.
  • No additional props (e.g., costumes, musical instruments or laboratory equipment) are permitted.
  • Presentations are limited to three minutes maximum, and competitors exceeding three minutes are disqualified.
  • 3MT submissions will need to be submitted by the end of the day Friday, October 14.
  • There will be awards for the top 5 3MT submissions.
  • Submissions will be judged and winners announced during the MAE Research Day activities.
  • Select this link for a PDF containing additional guidance for students submitting a 3MT.

Student Lecture Series

  • There will be a Student Lecture Series seminar component of the event. Students who participate in either the poster session or 3MT will be eligible for the opportunity to present a longer seminar as part of the days events. This will be good practice for conferences or Thesis/Dissertation Defenses.

Benefits of Participating in MAE Research Day

  • An opportunity to present your research to a wide ranging audience of prospective graduate students, current OSU students, faculty and staff.
  • Opportunities for professional development funds or other financial incentives.
  • Students who present in either the poster fair or 3MT competition will receive credit for one research seminar.
  • Students who present in BOTH the poster fair and 3MT competition will receive credit for one Departmental (aka Ahuja) seminar.
  • Remember students must attend both departmental seminars this semester unless an exemption is granted and this is a way to get excused from one of them!
  • Students who attend the poster fair, the student lectures or both will be eligible to receive research seminar credit for their participation. Information will be provided closer to the event on how students can get seminar credit for their participation in the event.
  • Lunch will be provided to presenters prior to the poster session.
