Visiting Ohio State

We look forward to seeing you at one of our engineering visits! Please look for the “Engineering Overview Only” session on the Ohio State Campus Visit site. Academic sessions for engineering students are only offered on specific dates, so we encourage you to visit campus during those times!

How to register: Prospective students may register for a campus visit through the Ohio State Campus Visit website that can be found below. Once you select whether you are a prospective student, an admitted student, or a transfer student, you will be able to access the visit calendar. Please search for and add an "Engineering Overview Only" session to visit the College of Engineering. We encourage students and guests to schedule a campus tour and a visit to the College of Engineering, but you are not required to do so.

If you have questions about admission to the College of Engineering, please contact the Engineering Undergraduate Recruitment Team at eng-recruitment@osu.edu .

Pre-Major to Major Process

Students who have been accepted to the College of Engineering and have declared an interest in mechanical or aerospace engineering are designated as pre-major students. Pre-major students are working towards the completion of the prerequisite coursework. Students may apply to the major once they have completed or are in the process of completing their final prerequisite coursework. Since admission to the major is competitive, it is imperative that pre-major students closely monitor their EPHR (eligibility point-hour ratio) and regularly meet with their Academic Advisor.

Pre-major students are also encouraged to explore opportunities outside of the classroom including Student Project Teams, the Engineering Co-op and Internship Program, and other student leadership experiences.

New First-Year Students

Ohio State’s Undergraduate Admissions is the primary resource for the application process and handles direct enrollment for undergraduate students into the College of Engineering. High school seniors applying to the Columbus campus are recommeded to submit their complete admission application by November 1, 2019. Engineering capacity fills quickly.

Direct enrollment of New First Year Students (NFYS) to the College of Engineering is competitive and requirements are designed to identify students who are prepared for the rigors of engineering study. Factors considered include ACT/SAT scores (emphasis on math), strong college prep curriculum (emphasis on math, science and rigorous courses), and class rank or GPA. Domestic students not eligible to directly enroll in the College of Engineering may enroll in Science, Technology and Environmental Exploration

  • Students with fewer than 30 semester credit hours will be considered under the criteria for new students in Engineering as described in the previous sections.
  • Students with more than 30 semester credit hours must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 or higher from previous institutions and have earned credit for college level calculus.
  • Students with more than 30 semester credit hours, but who do not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement will be enrolled in Science, Technology and the Environment Exploration.
