Nuclear Engineering

The Nuclear Engineering (NE) graduate program at Ohio State is designed to prepare students for successful careers in a variety of specialty areas associated with the application of radiation, radioactive materials, and nuclear fission. Our program is housed within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and located in Scott Lab, a building with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. Our research is further strengthened by the presence of the Ohio State University Nuclear Reactor Lab (OSU-NRL).

Our graduates work for a variety of organizations including research laboratories, design organizations, nuclear power plants, academic institutions, and regulatory organizations. Students work side-by-side with the faculty on projects for research sponsors such as the Department of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, NASA, DOE national laboratories, nuclear power plants, and others. The Ohio State University also offers an undergraduate minor degree in nuclear engineering, which is of particular value to engineers that do not plan to obtain advanced degrees in nuclear engineering.
